American Veterans Heritage Center’s 9th Annual Patriot Freedom Festival, which was held this past May 25-26, was enjoyed by approximately 4,500 guests and participants. We do hope you were able to attend. Be sure to mark next year’s calendar for our 10th Annual Festival next year, May 24-25, 2014!

Participants of the Opening Ceremony included our Dayton VA Director, Glenn Costie. The main speaker, veteran Ken Williamson talked about the history of the Korean (Forgotten) War. Those honored were veterans not only from the Korean War, but other wars and actions as well.

The 4 Freedom Equestrian Team honored our veterans, staying over through Monday for the VA Memorial Day Parade.

Rock and roll band, NoT ThaT BaD performed at the historic Band Stand on Saturday.

Rose Lee’s Civil War era fashion show was a big hit!

Margaret Kruckemeyer, in her period nurse’s uniform, was our Tour Guide during the weekend event. Her knowledge of the history of the Campus and dedication to spreading that information is unsurpassed.

Gold Star Wives of the Miami Valley held their annual Memorial Service at the historic Protestant Chapel at the Dayton VA Campus. VA Chaplain Luoma presided over the ceremony.

J&J Express Train is co-owned and operated by a father/daughter duo. Ed Johnson is a Vietnam Veteran. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Army Commendation Medals for his devotion to duty in the highest tradition of the Military, for his service in Vietnam and Ft. Knox, Ky. Ed and his daughter Tracy provided rides to children at the Festival all weekend for no charge!
Toupe-Roja came again to entertain our veterans. All of our entertainers volunteer at no charge to us for the sole purpose to honor our veterans.
Wayne Seibert, (below), gathered a few of his friends to provide a group they called, “Switch 2.”

Reenactors – one of our main attractions – taught visitors about the way of life of veterans and the period which they represented.

The AVHC Events Committee and our guests during the Festival truly appreciate all the work and dedication of our participants.
