AVHC and the Lincoln Society of Dayton are working with Mike Major Sculpture Studio to honor President Abraham Lincoln. One of Lincoln’s final official acts before his death was to create what became today’s VA, and Dayton was one of the first three sites.
Mike’s sculpture of Lincoln will be installed on the campus of the Dayton VA. It will portray Lincoln seated, signing the legislation that created the VA.
If you’ve been to Courthouse Square in the past few years, you have probably already seen Mike’s work. He created the 11-foot tall statue of Lincoln that now stands near the old Courthouse – close to where Lincoln delivered his 1859 anti-slavery speech.
We’re very excited about this new sculpture. We will be honored to have his statue watching over the work he started.
We’re still in the early stages of creating the statue. Below are some photos of Mike Major, the statue he created on Courthouse Square and the maquette he has already created of the new Lincoln statue.
We will have more information coming soon about how you can become involved.
